And let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds, not giving up meeting together, as some are in the habit of doing, but encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching. – Hebrews 10:24-25

Our Current Battle

In November 2024 after a $35 Million campaign, a Constitutional Amendment creating the right to abortion up-to-birth and sex-change operations for minors was passed by a slim margin of Missouri voters. Immediately legislators, Christians, and grassroots activists began the process of drafting strong legislation to present to voters in the next statewide election. House Joint Resolution 173 was passed in the Missouri legislature on May 15, 2025. A joint resolution creates a ballot question for voters. Today we know of HJR 173 as Amendment 3-2026.

But Missouri is in the cross-hairs of several Goliath-type funders and they are expected to contribute heavily to discourage future conservative activism. Campaign PAC Stop The Ban has raised over $1 million dollars to defeat Amendment 3 as of April 14, 2026. Other groups committed to contributing are The Fairness Project (based in Washington DC), Abortion Action Missouri, Planned Parenthood Great Rivers Action, Planned Parenthood Great Plains Votes, Global Impact Social Welfare Fund (Virginia-based), the ACLU, PROMO Missouri (a statewide LGBTQ advocacy organization) and more.

In contrast, the largest Conservative PACs have raised approximately $250,000: Her Health, Her Future led by Missouri’s First Lady Claudia Kehoe has raised $267,700 with $147,500 money-on-hand and the Missouri Right to Life PAC has raised over $300,000 with $111,000 money-on-hand.

It is clear that Missouri is in a battle to choose life or death, and the nation is watching, perhaps holding their collective breath.

God Calls us to Choose

In 1 Kings 18, the Lord gives Elijah an assignment: confront the cruelest, most powerful rulers (Jezebel and her husband Ahab) and force God’s People to choose Baal or Yahweh. Elijah said to the people, “How long will you waver between two opinions? If the Lord is God, follow Him; but if Baal is God, follow him.” But the people said nothing (18:21). Later in the evening, Elijah spoke directly to the people again, “Come here to me.” And they came to him (18:30). You know the rest of the story: Elijah poured an abundance of water on his sacrifice, fire came down from heaven and overwhelmed the sacrifice. When all the people saw this, they fell prostrate and cried, “The Lord – he is God!” (18:39).

The Result

What was the result? This event was a turning point in Israel’s spiritual and cultural war. The Baal prophets were permanently defeated. The drought was reversed. And God opened up a new page in Israel’s history with a new set of spiritual and civic leaders.

What was needed

What are the elements of the story of Elijah? Someone had to accept the calling. The people had to take action and move toward righteousness: they had to choose and move. They had to give up their weekend to walk up the mountain and participate in this event. Perhaps they had to contribute to the sacrifice, after all – 12 stones for an altar, 48 pounds of flour, wood and a full bull (at today’s prices, that could be $5,000) is a big commitment. The battle for our families is upon us: will we be passive (watching from the sidelines) or will we take action in our household, in our checking account, and in our region to defeat Baal.

Our Opportunities Abound

More Missouri churches and denominational groups are getting involved than ever before. The first statewide Christian denomination to support Amendment 3-2026 was the MO Baptist Convention in October 2025, representing more than 1,700 independent Southern Baptist churches across Missouri. Then Grace Church St. Louis representing 3,000 Christians. The Catholic Bishops of Missouri openly stated their support of Amendment 3. They represent approximately 850,000 Catholics statewide. After their support, the Missouri Catholic Conference (the public policy voice of the Catholic faith in Missouri) published a statement of support as well.

Several individuals are driving across Missouri to explain the positive outcomes if Amendment 3 (2026) is passed by voters this year. Areas that have had presentations include: Sullivan MO, Springfield MO, Franklin County, Kansas City and much more.

Our Civic Engagement leader, Kate Sickles, has made presentations to at least three pastoral networking groups with a total of over 40 pastors reached. Those pastors have reached out to other pastors. Often Kate has watched some of the pastor’s Sunday messages reflect what she explained in those meetings. She has spoken in individual churches, in Catholic churches, to individual priests and pastors. Currently, prolife leaders are meeting with other large denominations as well. They would appreciate your prayers. Kate reports that all of the pastors have been receiving the information very well and are wanting to talk about it in their pastoral networking groups.

What Can We Do?

Let’s return to our foundational verse, but while pulling out key phrases: let us consider how we may spur one another on toward love and good deeds… not giving up … encouraging one another—and all the more as you see the Day approaching.

•  Please pray for protection as presenters drive to remote locations and return home late at night

• Please strongly consider financially supporting a prolife organization as an offering to God during this campaign season. If you’re looking for somewhere to start, you can check out our Prolife Resources page.

• Sign up to tell your neighbors about Amendment 3. Get 10 pamphlets and a list of 10 prolife houses in your neighborhood to visit.

• Keep attending Civic Engagement meetings: ask questions, ask for updates, find out where help is most needed and choose your side.
