If you think that the heated controversies regarding mRNA vaccines lie largely in the past, think again. Although the recent COVID-19 vaccine debate centered around human applications, animal injections have been in the works for years,1 with Merck seeming to lead the pack: regarding its RNA particle-containing Sequivity, Merck claims that “[m]illions of doses of the SEQUIVITY vaccine platform have safely been used by veterinarians in swine herds for more than ten years since the USDA first issued the license in 2012.”2 As so many Americans were skeptical about mRNA vaccine use in their own bodies, however, might they also be concerned about its use in animals, including those they consume?

David Verhoeven, an Assistant Professor of Vet Microbiology and Preventive Medicine at Iowa State University, decries the “fear and misinformation about [the COVID-19 mRNA vaccine’s] supposed dangers,”3 claiming that “[t]hese misconceptions about mRNA vaccines have recently spilled over into worries about whether their use in agricultural animals could expose people to components of the vaccine within animal products such as meat or milk.”4 According to Verhoeven, “these [mRNA] vaccines have been shown to reduce disease on farms, and it’s all but impossible for them to end up in your food.”5 As a researcher who has “received funding from Merck and USDA,”6 however, Verhoeven’s perspective should be weighed against opposing viewpoints.

Verhoeven apparently believes that COVID-19 mRNA vaccines have an indisputably excellent safety record—any “dangers” are “supposed” and mere “misconceptions.” There is, however, an astonishing volume of reliable evidence contradicting his claim, including testimony from renowned internist and cardiologist Dr. Peter McCullough. At the January 12, 2024 Congressional Hearing on COVID-19 vaccine injury, McCullough described the types of damage caused by the spike protein produced by the mRNA vaccine:

The spike protein, now in 3,400 peer-reviewed papers and growing, is proven to cause heart damage and myocarditis. Our regulatory agencies agree, every regulatory agency in the world agrees. There’s [sic] actually guidelines now in the UK and Australia about how to diagnose and manage vaccine myocarditis—that’s how common this is. It accelerates atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease; causes tremendous swings in blood pressure and heart rate called postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, or POTS; causes neurologic injury, stroke (both ischemic and hemorrhagic), paralyzing syndromes, including Guillain–Barré syndrome, small fiber neuropathy, ear ringing. It causes blood clots. The spike protein is physically found in blood clots, the largest blood clots that we’ve ever seen in clinical medicine. Typically a blood clot that someone would get after a hip surgery or on an airplane would be a centimeter or so. It’s common in my practice—yesterday, I saw patients with 15 [cm], 17 [cm], 2ft. blood clots in their legs after the vaccine.7

Speaking to the European Parliament on September 13, 2023, Dr. McCullough explained the relationship discovered between death and the mRNA vaccine:

I’m the senior author on the largest autopsy study ever assembled of death after COVID-19 vaccination world-wide. We searched the literature, 600 papers, all the clinical findings; we reviewed them with contemporary knowledge, experts in pathology and clinical medicine. Our conclusion: 73.9% of the deaths after vaccination are due to the vaccine.8

Dr. McCullough’s testimony is supported by that of numerous other medical professionals, including a DOD whistleblower highlighted in a January 31, 2023 article in The Epoch Times:

It’s been a year since four Department of Defense (DOD) whistleblowers found a sudden increase in various diseases in the Defense Medical Epidemiology Database (DMED), which coincided directly with the introduction of COVID-19 vaccinations. Now, new data shows more evidence.

That’s according to Lt. Col.Theresa Long, M.D., MPH, a board-certified aerospace medicine doctor and Army Brigade flight surgeon with specialty training as an aviation mishap investigator and safety officer, who was one of the four whistleblowers. . . .

“After querying all pilots across the DOD, for all-cause morbidity and mortality, I found a stunning increase in the number of reportable events, spiking from an average of 226 reportable events a year (2016-2019) to 4,059 reports in 2022,” [Long] explained.

A DOD reportable event is any patient safety event resulting in death, permanent harm, or severe temporary harm.9

Doctors from across the pond provide further evidence in the December 2022 video “UK Doctors Call For Government To Urgently Pause and Investigate the Use of Novel mRNA Covid Vaccines,” in which physician after physician relates alarm concerning the injuries and/or deaths clearly associated with the mRNA shots.10 Not surprisingly, the U.S.’s Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS) received an “unprecedented number of reports since the rollout of covid vaccines,” according to a report in The BMJ, a peer-reviewed medical journal.11 The Florida Department of Health website warns, “In Florida alone, there was a 1,700% increase in VAERS reports after the release of the COVID-19 vaccine, compared to an increase of 400% in overall vaccine administration for the same time period . . . . The reporting of life-threatening conditions increased over 4,400%. This is a novel increase and was not seen during the 2009 H1N1 vaccination campaign.”12 It seems that the COVID-19 mRNA vaccines are anything but safe.

Next, what of Verhoeven’s contention regarding the mRNA vaccine’s effectiveness in disease treatment? He offers the assurance that “[l]ike in people, animal vaccines are tested for their safety and effectiveness in clinical trials. Approval for use from the USDA Center for Vaccine Biologics requires a modest level of protection against infection or disease symptoms.”13 But is the word of vaccine manufacturers and government agencies trustworthy? The suit that Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is bringing against COVID-19 mRNA vaccine manufacturer Pfizer “alleges Pfizer’s claim its vaccine was 95% effective against infection was ‘highly misleading . . .’ because it represented only the ‘relative risk reduction’ instead of the ‘absolute risk reduction [which was 0.85%],’”14 the latter one being the “FDA’s preferred efficacy metric.”15 This extreme difference is due to the small number of subjects who developed COVID-19 in the control and experimental groups relative to the overall size of the two groups. Additionally, the Texas suit maintains that the “FDA had only two months of Pfizer’s data before it authorized the vaccine,”16 revealing the agency’s utter ignorance of the vaccine’s longer-term effects.

Appallingly, Pfizer’s apparent deceptiveness and the FDA’s incompetence do not end there. An analysis published in the peer-reviewed journal International Journal of Vaccine Theory, Practice, and Research in October 2023 reported that Pfizer “hid [clinical trial] fatality data from regulators in order to qualify for Emergency Use Authorization.”17  Furthermore, other scientists have since confirmed what veteran genomics scientist Kevin McKernan stumbled upon near the beginning of 2023:18

[McKernan found that] vials of mRNA Pfizer and Moderna Covid vaccines . . . contained up to . . . 18-70 times more DNA contamination than the legal limits allowed by the European Medicines Agency (EMA) and the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

In particular, McKernan was alarmed to find the presence of an SV40 promoter in the Pfizer vaccine vials. This is a sequence that is “…used to drive DNA into the nucleus, especially in gene therapies,” McKernan explains. This is something that regulatory agencies around the world have specifically said is not possible with the mRNA vaccines. . . .

[C]ancer genomics expert Dr Phillip Buckhaults [said,] “There is a very real hazard” . . . that the contaminant DNA fragments will integrate with a person’s genome and become a “permanent fixture of the cell” leading to autoimmune problems and cancers in some people who have had the vaccinations. He also noted that these genome changes can “last for generations.”19

The title of a November 2023 article, “FDA Shuts Down Enquiries About DNA Contamination in Covid Vaccines,” reflects this governing body’s inept response. This article explains that, despite the FDA admitting “the possibility that fragments of DNA left over by the manufacturing process can be incorporated into a patient’s own DNA, to potentially cause cancer,”20 this agency not only remains unconcerned about DNA contamination in COVID-19 vaccines but also has stonewalled attempts by media to learn more about what it knows or is doing to investigate this manifestly grave matter.21 Notably, an exposé published in November 2023 in The Epoch Times points to something more sinister than ineptitude as the reason behind the FDA’s failings; its subheading reads, “A new BMJ investigation reveals a ‘revolving door’ between FDA officials tasked with regulating COVID-19 vaccines and the companies who manufacture them.”22 If regulators can be bought off, how can their approval be reliable?

Moreover, Americans have been greatly misled about the persistence of mRNA vaccines:

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), mRNA from COVID-19 vaccines is “broken down within a few days after vaccination and doesn’t last long in the body”—a position it has adhered to since the pandemic’s beginning, despite research suggesting otherwise [link]. . . .

Yet a new study published on Aug. 31 in Proteomics Clinical Applications found spike protein in the biological fluids of people who received an mRNA COVID-19 vaccine six months after vaccination, suggesting mRNA may be integrated or retranscribed [reverse-transcribed] in some cells.23

Dr. McCullough expounded on this in his speech to the European Union Parliament:

There’s not a single study showing that the mRNA [in the COVID-19 vaccine] is broken down; because it’s pseudouridinated—it’s made synthetically—it cannot be broken down. There’s not a study showing it leaves the body. We now have papers by Castruita who demonstrates the mRNA circulating for a month; that’s as long as they’ve looked.24

Clearly, vaccine manufacturers and related government agencies have tarnished their reputations, giving Americans good reason to be skeptical about mRNA vaccinations—both for humans as well as for livestock. Dr. R.M. Thornsberry, D.V.M., who is chairman of R-CALF USA’s animal health committee, agrees:25 “Pointing out that many individuals had adverse reactions and complications and even died from Covid vaccines, [Thornsberry] says much more study over many years is needed before the safety of mRNA vaccines will be known.”26

So, just how much trust ought Americans place in Merck’s confidence expressed in the opening paragraph regarding the safety of Sequivity for pigs? Thankfully, Merck’s vaccine differs in ways that may lessen the persistence noted above;27 however, this not only provides no guarantee of the manufacturer’s credibility but also guarantees nothing about other livestock mRNA vaccines in development here or in use in other countries. This relates to the following concern for America’s beef: “Thornsberry pointed out that the United States has not approved mRNA injections in cattle, but they are in use on a limited basis in swine. He said the dilemma for beef is that the U.S. is importing more and more beef from many different countries, some of which either already are or plan to begin using mRNA in cattle.”28 In light of all this data, consumers may understandably desire to purchase meat from animals raised free from mRNA shots. Labeling offers a simple solution, but there is no mandatory country of origin labeling,29 and “[a] Missouri bill [that] would have required the labeling of animal products derived from animals administered mRNA vaccines . . . failed to get out of committee.”30 Any steps to keep customers in the dark merely give greater cause for distrusting those in power; however, some farmers who oppose mRNA vaccines are advertising their stand, and at least one of these is in Missouri!31 This remedy allows consumers to make informed decisions without government intervention.

Finally, why should Christians be aware of or get involved with controversies such as this? First, we have been given stewardship over our own bodies, and our care for our physical selves is a reflection of the honor we have for God: “Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God, and that you are not your own? For you have been bought for a price: therefore glorify God in your body.”32 Knowing how to properly care for our bodies is no easy task; however, God has promised that “[t]he fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom”33 and that “[i]t is better to take refuge in the LORD than to trust in princes.”34 So Christians ought to seek wisdom from God regarding whom to trust, as leaders and experts can be misled—or, worse, purposefully misleading!
